  • Pirenjaweg: From Idea to First Greenleaf Residence
  • 5 January 2026 by
    Nikhil NN Razab-Sekh

When we started the Pirenjaweg project, the goal was simple but ambitious: create a short-stay residence in Paramaribo that we would personally be proud to host — and that could serve as the foundation for what would later become Greenleaf Residences.

At the time, Pirenjaweg was not a finished product, nor a guaranteed success. It was an idea backed by conviction, hands-on work, and a clear belief that Suriname deserved a higher standard of short-stay accommodation.

    Starting with the right fundamentals

From day one, we approached Pirenjaweg differently. Instead of optimizing purely for speed or short-term returns, we focused on fundamentals:

    • A clean, functional layout suitable for both short and medium stays

    • Durable materials that age well in a tropical climate

    • Practical amenities guests actually use, not just decorative extras

    • A calm, private atmosphere — not a hotel, not a party stay

We wanted Pirenjaweg to feel reliable. A place guests could trust, return to, and recommend.

    Building while learning

Pirenjaweg was not built in isolation. It was built while learning — about guest expectations, operational realities, pricing dynamics, and the importance of consistency.

    Every step taught us something:

    • How small design decisions impact guest comfort

    • How operational clarity reduces friction

    • How communication matters as much as the space itself

This learning process shaped not just the property, but the way we think about hospitality as a whole.

    Launching with intention

When Pirenjaweg went live, the focus was not on scale, but on getting it right.

    We managed everything directly:

guest communication, check-in processes, cleaning coordination, and availability. This hands-on approach allowed us to stay close to feedback and improve continuously.

Early guest responses confirmed what we hoped for:

Pirenjaweg was perceived as clean, well-organized, and thoughtfully equipped — exactly the experience we set out to deliver.

    Why Pirenjaweg matters

Pirenjaweg is more than a single property. It represents the starting point of Greenleaf Residences.

    It proved that:

    • A small, well-executed residence can outperform larger, poorly managed ones

    • Quality and consistency matter more than volume

    • A clear operational model is just as important as design

The lessons learned here now inform how we manage our own residences — and how we support property owners who trust us with theirs.

    Looking ahead

Pirenjaweg remains an active reference point for us. It continues to guide decisions as Greenleaf Residences grows — carefully, intentionally, and without compromising standards.

Every new project builds on what started here.
